HISTORY

The Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb (PPIHC), also known as The Race to the Clouds, is an annual automobile and motorcycle hillclimb to the summit of Pikes Peak in Colorado Springs. The track measures 12.42 miles, with over 156 turns, climbing 4,720 feet from the start at Mile 7 on Pikes Peak Highway, to the finish at 14,110 feet , on grades averaging 7.2%. It used to consist of both gravel and paved sections, however as of August 2011, the highway is fully paved. The race is self sanctioned and has taken place since 1916. It is currently contested by a variety of classes of cars, trucks, motorcycles and quads. There are often numerous new classes tried and discarded year-to-year. On average there are 130 competitors. The PPIHC operates as the Pikes Peak Auto Hill Climb Educational Museum to organize the annual motorsports event.

SCHEDULE

Friday, June 24 (Practice/Qualifying Day 3)

4:00 a.m. - 5:00 a.m. Gateway open to spectators (tickets needed) 4:00 a.m. - 5:00 a.m. Practice day tickets will be sold at the Gateway for $25 per person (or online). 4:45 a.m. Start Line closes to uphill traffic. 5:30 a.m. - 8:30 a.m. Sanctioned Practice (Pikes Peak - America’s Mountain) 9:30 a.m. All competitors, trailers, equipment, and support vehicles must be of Pikes Peak - America’s Mountain. Any street legal cars staying on the mountain must go back to the gateway and pay to reenter. 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Ticket Sales (Hotel Eleganté- Breckenridge/Aspen Room) 2:00 p.m. The Broadmoor PPIHC 100th Anniversary Documentary Film Viewing (The Broadmoor Hotel Theater) 5:00 p.m. Final competitor list and run order announced 5:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. Fan Fest, Downtown Colorado Springs- Open to the general public 5:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. Merchandise and Race Day Ticket Sales (Fan Fest)#

Saturday, June 25 (Set-Up Day)

Sunday, June 26 (Race Day)

3:00 a.m. Gateway opens to the public. All spectators must use the uphill lane and enter through any of the three gates available. No two way uphill traffic at any point for anyone. 3:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. Ticket Sales at PPIHC and Will Call ticket pick up at the Gateway 3:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Pre-purchased ticket holders will be allowed through the Gateway 7:00 a.m. No spectator cars will be allowed above the Start Line past this time. The Start Line could be shutoff to spectators before 7:00 a.m. if parking above the Start Line is full. 8:00 a.m. Green Flag is dropped (Start of the 94 th Running) Merchandise will be sold at the start line area, all day, on race day.
